Village du Pecheur

L'Archipel has been standing above Côte d'Or since the early years of Seychelles tourism, and it still carries the proportions of that era: creole, colonial-inspired architecture, whitewashed panelling, and a great deal of polished wood rather than poured concrete. The rooms climb a two-storey hillside behind a private crescent beach, Deluxe Rooms through to Family Suites, each with a balcony turned toward the Indian Ocean. What sets it apart from the newer resorts further up the coast is scale: this is a small, family-run property rather than a branded chain, and the atmosphere, down to a genuinely lively bar in the evenings, has stayed closer to a house than a hotel.
We picked this one for what it has kept rather than what it has added: a working infinity pool above the bay, mature gardens strung with hibiscus and bougainvillea, and a beach sheltered enough by rock to feel private without being fenced off. Two restaurants, one beachfront and casual, one upstairs and more formal, cover the range without needing a tasting menu to justify the difference. At 200 reviews and a 9.1 rating, it has clearly held its standard over the decades it has been open, which is its own kind of credential on an island full of newer builds.
Côte d'Or sits in a sheltered cove on Praslin's northeast, about 25 minutes from the airport and five to ten from the villages of Baie Sainte Anne and Anse Volbert, close enough for a change of scene without losing the sense of seclusion on return. The hotel's own crescent of sand, framed by rock, keeps the beach unusually private for a stretch this close to the island's main settlements, and a small reef just offshore is enough for an afternoon of snorkelling without needing a boat.

The rooms run from Deluxe Rooms up through Junior Suites, Senior Suites and Family Suites, all set across the hillside's two storeys rather than in a single block. Every category keeps a balcony facing the ocean, and the layout means even the entry-level rooms get a real view rather than a garden outlook. Families travelling with children over two are genuinely accommodated, though without the dedicated kids' facilities of a larger resort, in keeping with the hotel's smaller, more personal scale.
La Gigolette sits at beach level, casual and close enough to the sand that dinner can follow straight from a swim; La Feuille d'Or, upstairs, takes a more formal turn without losing the same seafood-and-local-produce backbone. Between the two, the kitchen covers most of what a stay here needs without requiring a drive to Baie Sainte Anne, and the evening bar scene, livelier than at most boutique properties this size, gives the hotel a social pulse that larger, more anonymous resorts often lack.
The hillside setting means steps rather than flat paths between the beach, the pool and the rooms, so it suits travellers comfortable on foot more than those needing step-free access. There's no dedicated spa, though in-room treatments can be arranged, and families should treat the kids' offering as minimal rather than resort-standard. What the hotel trades for those limits is a sense of place that newer, larger properties on the same coastline haven't yet earned.
